George Brown

Remembering George Brown

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of George Brown on 7 April 2026.

George was a cornerstone of the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Kidney Patients’ Association (GSTTKPA), having supported the charity since September 2005. Over more than a decade of active volunteering, he gave an extraordinary amount of his time, energy, and compassion to improving the lives of kidney patients across the Trust.

George was a familiar and reassuring presence in dialysis units, renal clinics, and wards. Known for his warmth, humour, and kindness, he built genuine connections with patients and staff alike. His lived experience as a kidney patient enabled him to offer invaluable peer‑to‑peer support, providing comfort, understanding, and hope to those navigating similar journeys.

A passionate advocate for patients, George worked tirelessly to ensure their voices were heard and their environments improved. He was a key driver in improving renal environments, helping to create more welcoming and supportive spaces for current and future patients. He was also involved in enhancements to patient and nurse waiting areas, always striving to improve wellbeing and experience.

George’s contribution extended far beyond the wards. Alongside his wife, he regularly travelled to dialysis units to spread joy and connection, particularly during the festive season. Through the GSTTKPA, they helped deliver Christmas gifts to patients, bringing moments of kindness and celebration to those who needed it most.

He was also instrumental in organising community events, including the annual New Cross BBQ and family fun days, which brought together patients, families, and staff in a spirit of togetherness and support. His energy and dedication helped make these events meaningful highlights in the calendar.

In recognition of his exceptional commitment, George received the prestigious GSTT CARE Award in 2017, presented by Chairman Sir Hugh Taylor and Chief Executive Amanda Pritchard. This honour reflected what so many already knew — that George’s care for others went above and beyond.

George was not only a volunteer but an integral and deeply valued member of the kidney care community. His kindness, advocacy, and unwavering dedication have left a lasting legacy.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to George and his family for their many years of service, generosity, and compassion. He will be greatly missed by patients, staff, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

The funeral will take place on Wednesday 6th May. For further information, please contact the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Kidney Patients’ Association (GSTTKPA).
